Westgate Biodiversity provides volunteers with a chance to serve the wider community through park maintenance activities at Westgate Park in Fishermans Bend. We have a lead role in looking after the Park, with our own vision for it. Parks Victoria is the overall manager. Activities undertaken include establishing and maintaining representative samples of Melbourne's original vegetation (seed collection, propagation, planting & weeding), collecting rubbish, path maintenance (removing fallen trees & vegetation growing onto paths) and monitoring our ever so cute microbats.

Tangaroa Blue and Westgate Biodiversity are joining the celebration of our living waterway by getting our hands dirty for Birrarung and we want you to come along!
Join us for a meaningful day of Littler Clean Up by the river to help reduce pollution flowing into the Yarra, Birrarung. Our meeting point is by the Punt Pier (view map), which is one of the last accessible points of the river before it connects to the sea.
Please note:
There are no public toilets at the site. Closest public toilets are in Westagate Park, accessing via Todd Road. There are no drinking fountains or tabs in the area so we recommend you bring your own water bottles.MUST SIGN UP HERE: https://events.humanitix.com/clean-up-at-westgate-park
Accessibility:
For those who want to join us in the clean up by the river, the access to the river shore is through a rocky mildly step pathway. However, there is a bike path in the area, and people with limited mobility can help us clean the sides of that path. We cannot guarantee wheelchair or pram accessibility. Riverfest welcomes everyone—we’re committed to making our events accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities. This event is part of the 2025 Birrarung Riverfest. Celebrate our river at one of 60+ events hosted over three weeks from 6–28 September.
