Small Dogs/Little Hike, Kruger Rock, Hermit Park, Sunday, September 29, 2019

Details

Kruger Rock Trail is a 4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Estes Park, Colorado. The starting elevation is ~ 8300' with
~ 1000' EG.

The trail climbs through aspen and pine with tremendous views over Estes Park and the towering peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park. The final segment scrambles up to the top of Kruger Rock for 360 degree views. The fact that the trail is not within Rocky Mountain National Park makes this a good option if you want to hike near Estes Park without the overwhelming summer crowds that you tend to find on the easier trails in the National Park.

When you pop out on top of Kruger Rock, the views are incredible. Longs Peak and the Twin Sisters Peaks tower to the south and the Continental Divide stretches out to the west (including great views of Hallett & Flattop Peaks). To the north you get views of the Mummy Range's Mount Chapin and the 13'ers: Ypsilon Mountain, Mount Chaquita, and Fairchild Mountain.

CARPOOL
We will carpool to minimize the number of cars at the TH and share the parking fee of $9. Let's meet in Lyons. We'll meet at the wastewater treatment plant in Bohn Park (198 2nd Ave, Lyons). The Town of Lyons charges a parking fee every day at Bohn Park, or visitors may park at the wastewater treatment plant lot (east of 2nd Ave.) for free.

Please be prepared to drive or bring gas money to offer your driver. Thank you!

Meetup charges me $98.94 every 6 months to use their site to communicate with all of you. I am charging $1.00 per hike to help pay these fees. Therefore the hikers attending events are the people paying the fees for the group. Members watching our posts don't have to chip in until they actually attend events. Thank you for pitching in!

I am not a hiking expert or guide. By signing up for this hike, you acknowledge that you are responsible for your own safety. Please check the weather and trail conditions so you can bring the appropriate gear to the outing.
