Why can’t you just stop spending? Why can’t you just control your temper? Why can’t you just forgive and move on?

The hardest moments of the Christian life happen when we try to practice what Jesus preached about. Over the spring, Westminster spent six weeks exploring the way we are often shackled by sins like wrath, envy, greed, and more. So many people resonated with those sermons, and yet confessed that they had felt shackled by the same sins for years. How do we break free? What does a life freed from these sins even look like?

In this series, pastors and counselors will help us explore some of the most prevalent sins of our age, how they affect us, and what it looks like to allow God’s grace to free us. The sessions are designed to be broad enough to apply to everyone, so we encourage you to attend sessions even if you don’t think you have a problem in that area. We promise every session will teach you something.

You can sign up for one session or all 6. We will serve dinner. The cost will be $5 a week for meals.
Wednesday Nights in the Worship Center from 6:30-8:00 pm

August 27th Introduction: In this introductory session, Kaisi Cunningham will set up the series and help us understand what a Christian worldview of sin and morality is and why it is practically important for every life of faith.

September 3 - Poverty and Riches: Jesus spoke more about money than any other single topic, and with good reason. We all have a relationship with money, and yet money has been a spiritual pitfall for humans for ages. Poverty and wealth both bring their own spiritual dangers, and living well with money means navigating those dangers faithfully. In this session, Pastor Meredith Mills will explore the common financially related sins that hinder us, and what it looks like to live free from them.

September 10 - Unforgiveness: The New Testament speaks extensively about forgiveness, and yet it remains elusive for many of us. It’s a great sounding idea until we actually have to do it, and then it’s so much harder than we thought. In this session, counselor Jeanne Hensley will explore the many ways unforgiveness can show up in our lives, and what a disciplined practice of forgiveness looks like.

September 17 - Addiction: Perhaps the greatest spiritual attack today comes through addiction. Addictions show up in many forms, and affect most people at some point in their lives. Sometimes it’s as small as an addiction to coffee, and sometimes it’s as life-shattering as an addiction to alcohol. Whatever the form, addiction always comes with a price. In this session, counselor Tim Mavergeorge will help us understand addiction and what a life freed from addiction looks like.

September 24- Singleness and Marriage: Christians are sometimes called to singleness and sometimes to marriage, and each state brings its own spiritual challenges and pitfalls. In this session, Marty Lundstrom will help us explore what it looks like to live faithfully in either state.

Oct 1 - Anger: Everyone gets angry, but what does it look like to be angry but not sin? Where does our anger come from, and what do we do with it? In this session, Dr. Lee Hudson will unpack the spiritual meaning of anger, how it becomes a habit, when it becomes a sin, and what life looks like when anger is in its proper place.
