From: Carolina M.
Sent on: Monday, May 24, 2010 9:15 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Wet Dog Adventures!

We changed the date to make room for the Weeki Wachee River Paddle on June 12th and also so we wouldn't bump into those Rowdy Gainsville College folk who just got out of school. (git r done)

Ginnie Springs Adventure Weekend

When: Saturday, June 19,[masked]:00 AM

Meeting fee: $25/person with own kayak. $65/person with kayak rental.

Wet Dog Supporters do not get the 50% discount on this trip due to camping fees we can't control.

Ginnie Springs Campground
7300 NE Ginnie Springs Road
High Springs, FL 32643

Hot? Sorta.... Humid Out?

Time to be a tourist in your own backyard! There is a reason that folks drive, fly and travel miles and states away to be here. Why let them have all the fun?!? JOIN US and discover the "other " side of Florida. Chill out on the Amazing Sante Fe River! Relax and meet like-minded folks on this pristine kayak camping river trip. Ginnie Springs is easily one of the best camping experiences in Florida.

We want you to experience a weekend like no other. So join in on the fun. Situated on the banks of this amazing and famous river are pristine cool springs just beckoning your presence. During the day we'll enjoy kayaking, snorkeling, tubing and biking. We'll even visit a real live naked hermit named Ed. Evening activities include campfire, guitar music and dutch oven made "apple cobbler and homemade hand cranked ice cream" ahhhh! the closest thing to nirvana. We recommend carpooling on this trip!

Trip Difficulty: beginner and up welcome, but must be physically able to paddle 5 or more miles/day.

Note about carpooling. When you rsvp please note where you'll be driving up from so others can email you about carpooling options. ie Pinellas county, Hillsborough county, Citrus County, Pasco county.

When: Saturday, June 19th and Sunday June 20th.

Cost: $65 if renting a kayak (includes camping fee's, and kayak rental for two days)

$25 if bringing your own kayak. (includes, camping fees)

Note: Make payments by credit card by using the paypal link under payments on the this trip page.

Arrive at 11 am on Saturday and set up camp. Group eats own lunch at noon. 1 pm we'll assemble up and put-in and paddle up the Sante Fe River about 4 miles and visit with Ed (The famous naked hermit) on Lilly Spring. Ed will allow pictures with him if you like so bring your camera. Paddle back down river and take out. This is where the itinerary gets a little looser. Some will relax in the springs or tube down river from Devils Eye to Deer Spring or just relax by the campsite to close out the afternoon. Dinner will be "Pot Luck" at 7 pm at our campsite. Let us know in your rsvp what yu want to bring please. After dinner is free time then a fire under the stars.

Sunday morning breakfast on your own. After breakfast we'll pack up our campsite and shuttle all the cars to the take-out. At 10 :30 am or so we'll paddle down river about 3-4 hours hitting all the hidden springs and exploring the other riparian offerings of the Sante Fe River. Pack for lunch on the river. We'll take out around 3 pm or so and head for home.

Call Mike at[masked] if any questions.

Note: All payments must be made prior to June 16th so we can tell the campground our final numbers. If renting a kayak just click the grey Paypal link and put in your appropriate amount for this trip.

Note: bugs at this place have not been a problem in the past.

Things to bring: Food for lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Pot Luck food item to share with group for dinner on Saturday, Plenty of Water for on the river, camera, tent, bug spray, water shoes or sandals, snorkeling gear, lights for at night, rain gear, etc
