Speakers:
Alex Bowes, BSc (Hons) in Computer Games Development @ SETU
Alan Harszczyk & Nathan Heaton, BSc (Hons) in Computing in Interactive Digital Art and Design @ SETU

Talk: Inside the Code & Art of Echoes of Eriu: Challenges and Lessons in Godot

Alex, Alan, and Nathan share their journey building Echoes of Eriu, a top-down adventure game developed in the Godot Engine as part of their project at SETU. Combining programming, art, and music, the team brought the world of Wexford to life while exploring themes of climate change and adaptation.
In this talk, they’ll walk through the creative and technical challenges they faced, lessons learned along the way, and how collaboration between code, art, and sound shaped the final experience.

Speaker: Shane Whitmore, Engineer Trainee @ Sun Life
(BSc in Computer Science – Internet of Things, SETU)

Talk: Technology & The Body: Investigating the Feasibility of Creating a Non-Invasive, Inexpensive Prosthetic Arm Prototype

Shane takes us through the journey of designing and building a non-invasive, low-cost prosthetic arm prototype — from the first spark of an idea to a functioning proof of concept. Along the way, he’ll share the technologies that made the project possible, the challenges of balancing accessibility, functionality, and cost, and the lessons learned throughout development.
This session offers a fascinating look at how innovation and empathy intersect in engineering, and what’s next for the next-generation prototype.

Speaker: Andrew Koval, Graduate Test Engineer @ Boston Scientific
(BSc in Computer Science – Internet of Things, SETU)

Talk: Rugged Computing – A Return to Retro Technology With Modern Software
Andrew explores how hardware technologies from the past can be reimagined and combined with modern software development to create innovative solutions for drone and robotics control. Drawing from his final-year project, he shares the story of building a bespoke computing platform using CAD design and 3D printing — integrating seemingly unrelated components in unconventional ways.
