Greetings Skeptical Drinkers!

In 2014, God's Not Dead grossed $60 million on a $2 million budget, spawned four sequels, and became a cultural touchstone for a particular strand of American evangelical Christianity. It also drove a lot of atheists and skeptics up the wall.

This month, we're doing some film criticism.

This movie follows a college freshman who refuses to sign a statement affirming that God is dead, and must instead debate his philosophy professor in front of the class. Whatever else you might say about the film, you gotta admit the setup is intriguing.
Rotten Tomatoes (the website) has a critics score of 13%, while the popular vote is 75%.

Polarizing? Maybe.

Here’s a five-star review:
I really liked the movie despite the negative reviews it seems like the people leaving reviews are very similar to the professor. it provides simple yet good arguments and the pacing is acually good almost 2h long and i didnt even feel it. Many reviews are just cry babys not understanding basic theology, despite all that, great movie! – Tgg D

And a half star review:
Sadly, this film, which unfortunately became a saga, lacks soul and heart. It is a failed experiment where the formula of Christian persecution is repeated over and over again, generating no greater impact, offering no innovation, and contributing nothing new, just like the Fast and Furious saga, which suffers from the same syndrome: more quantity, less quality, and more of the same. – Juan David R

But what do YOU think?

  • Amazon Prime
  • Apple TV
  • Fandango at Home

If you have some more time, here are a couple secular takes:
