Notable for its namesake, a live oak more than two centuries old that split down the middle and still lives, Split Oak Forest Wildlife and Environmental Area encompasses more than 2,000 acres. In the 1990s, it was set aside as a mitigation bank for habitat to offset the sea of development that now creeps up to its western border....The loop is 5.3 miles, but I like to explore so we may venture off the path to get closer to 7.

Phones/camera are also recommended as this loop takes you by three of the prettiest lakes in the Split Oak Forest, and it uses some of the lesser-known trails as well. There is a decent amount of sugar sand along the way. The trail is well-maintained and easy to navigate.

NOTE: There are no public restrooms in the parking area so please plan accordingly. Fortunately there are a number of semi-secluded natural areas throughout the trail...

I recommend comfortable walking/hiking shoes, headlamps, Deep Woods bug spray, and fluids for hydration, snacks/food, and your spirit of adventure and fellowship, but we do live by the creed "Hike Your Way"...Be ready to get fresh air, exercise, engage in diverse conversations, and make some new Connections!!

If you need to cancel, please change your RSVP from "YES" to "NO". We realize things can change and it's not a big deal if you change your RSVP. Thank you...JAP3
