Acupressure to Balance our Lives

Details

For thousands of years, Asian cultures have successfully used acupressure and acupuncture to treat a variety of diseases and injuries and restore energy balance, relaxation and wellness for the receivers. According to WebMD, "the goal of acupressure is to restore health and balance to the body's channels of energy..." also called meridians, where energy blockages are believed to cause illness. Stress that builds up over time in our bodies is believed to be one of the major sources of these blockages.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), a renowned cancer hospital in New York City, recommends acupressure for treating many side effects of chemotherapy, including vomiting and nausea. Using acupressure, according to MSK, can also "...help release muscle tension and promote blood circulation." They recommend that patients also perform acupressure on themselves to help relieve the stress and anxiety they feel while coping with their illnesses.

Maxine Wagoner, owner and operator of Golden Body & Brain Yoga & Tai Chi will teach us some simple acupressure techniques that we can practice on ourselves or our loved ones. She will also explain the importance of our meridian energy system and why practicing acupressure is important for keeping balance in our stress-filled lives.
