Mt Zwischen (to gaze down upon The Great Sand Dunes)
Details
The Great Sand Dunes is one of my favorite places in Colorado. The dunes are utterly majestic and magnificent. I’m in love.
Whenever I’m there, I always gaze up at the surrounding nearby mountains and wondered what the view must look like from up there! I’ve climbed a few of them, but this one (while a difficult and long wilderness trek) is supposed to have the KING of all views of looking down on The Great Sand Dunes.
It’s a long no-route bushwhacking adventure, I won’t kid you on that. It begins with a defined path, then we kinda “take a left” and descend into the woods. Eventually we follow a clear ridge line for an entire day’s journey… but the view of the Sand Dunes will only keep getting cooler as we go!
It’s a 12er. Maybe 16-18 miles or so. Long day.
