Details
Join us for a 13 mile ride in Sunriver! We'll leave at 9:30am. If anyone's game for lunch we can head to Sunriver Brewing for a bite after.
Ride facts: Park at the Sun Lava Trailhead. If the lot is full, you can probably park along E. Cascade road, or park somewhere else close by and bike over on the paved trails.
- Route: Sunriver Lava Butte Trail for 5 miles. It's all paved and uphill, but it's gradual and not too bad. We can always stop and catch our breath for a bit. At the Newberry National Monument Visitor Center, we'll head over to the Blackrock trail for 4 miles, which is an all-downhill dirt trail with some lava rock areas. Then we'll head over to the Deschutes River Trail, which is over 3 miles of dirt trail along the river. There's a steep hill at the beginning. I definitely can't make it up and walk it! It's kind of up and down and there's some techy bits. Trailforks Route Map
- Time: About 2 hours
- Terrain: Paved, then dirt with lava rock. All green trails but still some technical areas. Some shade with pine trees.
- Lunch? If anyone wants to join for lunch we can head over to Sunriver Brewing for a bite/brew after!
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the posted start time. We wait about 5 minutes for stragglers then ride out. If you arrive late, refer to the route info and map and try to catch up!
Bring:
- Sunscreen
- Water in a hydration pack. 1 bottle isn't enough hydration for a ride of this length.
- Fuel: Carbs and sugars are the best mid-ride fuel. Protein is for after!
