What we’re about
CELEBRATING 10 YEARS IN 2025!
This is a group for everybody who would like to understand more about themselves and those they live or work with - through sharing with others.
Maybe you would like to know why your kids always clash, or why your partner is so sensitive... or not sensitive enough. Maybe you would like to know why you or somebody you love never seem to fit in. Maybe you want to know why you have chosen a certain profession. Maybe you just want to share what you know about personality types or learn what others know.
The cartoon on this page represents two people reaching out to each other over an invisible wall. This invisible wall symbolizes the communication problems, clashes and misunderstandings that result from our inborn natural type differences. Our group aims to help people reach out through understanding the different personality types.
The key is that once we understand that we are not all alike, we can open our minds to sharing rather than judging each other and learn to celebrate our differences. The main focus of this group is on understanding the 16 psychological types first described by Carl Jung and made popular by Myers-Briggs and David Keirsey, but with some adjustments that bring it from just descriptive accounts of our differences in which you know your "typename" to a deeper understanding of what goes on inside us that makes us so different in one way and so alike in another.

See all- How to identify someone else's personality typeThistle Hall, Wellington
It's one thing to know your own psychological type and another to work out someone else's. You could ask someone to do a questionnaire, but what about those you aren't close to - or who don't want to do a test? It might be a colleague or your boss, that intriguing guy you know, a potential date, a friend or even a celebrity or fictional character.
Note: we're in the upstairs hall for this session.
We last explored this topic (and for the first time properly) two and half years ago - let's do it again as we celebrate some of our 'greatest hits' in the group's 10th anniversary year.
This time round we'll focus on identifying someone else's type through communication. Some people suggest running through a mini questionnaire in your head during a conversation with someone, others listen for certain words or what the person likes to talk about, while others again keep an eye on body language. Let's swap tips and hear what you look for.
All welcome. Come and share with others (we typically break into small groups for discussion).

FINDING OUT YOUR TYPE
If you'd like to get an idea of your type ahead of the session, these questionnaires below might help.
