About halfway up you'll reach Ferguson Peak, a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley below with long range mountain views. The trail summits at Blue Ridge Pasture, which offers panoramic views. This is considered a moderate hike, many considered it more than moderate.
The well-marked trailhead & parking lot is located along Hwy 74-A (Charlotte Hwy) north of Gerton.
