Browns Bridge Laid Back Paddle PERMIT REQUIRED
Laid Back Paddles: These paddles will be calm, short, and slow! These paddles will have more of an exploring nature and relaxation feel to them. Any length of kayak would be welcome, (no inflatables) and any level of paddling skill. These are for people who want to stop and smell the roses. Distances will be based on the individual groups.
Rocky Gorge Reservoir and Browns Bridge
Very pleasant and peaceful reservoir located between Olney and Laurel, Maryland. Rocky Gorge is a bit unusual for a Maryland lake/reservoir because it is fairly narrow for its entire length. It is probably about as wide as a small to medium-width river. Trees (a mixture of deciduous and conifer) come right down to the water's edge. No powerboats are allowed, so it is a nice place to paddle. If you put in at Brown's Bridge and go left (upstream), it is kind of a marshy/feeder stream type area. If you go down toward the dam, it is still narrow, but is definitely a reservoir. WE WILL BE HEADING LEFT/UPSTREAM
The river narrows and hopefully there is lots of beautiful signs of Summer we can look for. With the rains this week, I am hoping we will be able to paddle in the sunken forest!
Make sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen, and snacks. We will stop for a snack break on a small "beach". Feel free to bring something yummy to share. Afterwards we will mostly like stop for dinner/drinks somewhere nearby.
