This is the ultimate poultry fancier's route.... bring a crate with you! We are going to walk through the Old Downs Village and take the pack horse trail up onto Downs Hill, enjoying wonderful views over Bray Head and over to Killiney Hill. We will then take an old trail through deepest Calary, to visit a wonderful farmyard full of hens, geese, guinea fowl and rabbits. They don't come any more free range than you find them here, and there are wonderful breeds of hens, running around the hedges and roadways. When we leave the farm yard we take a small local road around to the entrance of the Altidore Wood and loop around through a very pleasant wood with a lot of beech trees and rejoin our original packhorse trail. This is a lovely loop of 12 km plus with only one eight minute slope. Great views over the Wicklow mountain range are guaranteed...
