Open Source Day is an interactive awareness and learning event that introduces students to Wikimedia, Wikipedia, open-source collaboration, and open knowledge.
It follows a learn → engage → explore → contribute approach — starting with a guest speaker session, moving through interactive quizzes and challenges, and ending with a hands-on build session using real Wikimedia data.

Google Developer Tools you'll work with:

  • Gemma — get hands-on with Google's open, lightweight AI models and see how they can be used to build real applications
  • Kaggle— a data science and machine learning community platform where you can explore datasets, run notebooks, and take part in competitions. For Open Source Day, participants will use the Wikimedia Structured Wikipedia Dataset on Kaggle, working hands-on with real Wikipedia data to build and explore open-source project ideas.
  • Guided, hands-on walkthroughs — work through real examples step by step, so you leave the day having actually built and explored something yourself, not just watched a demo.

By the end of the day, you'll have your accounts set up, your tools installed, and your first open-source task identified.
