This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Adams and his associates. In this field session, we focus upon local MEDICINAL plants, with Dr. James Adams, author of “Healing with Medicinal Plants of the West.”
Dr. Adams will share his two decades of training in the subject of Chumash healing herbs, and he will demonstrate how certain pain-relieving products are made. You will get to see the specific herbs used in Chumash healing, and you will see how they are prepared for use.
Dr. Jim Adams, a professor emeritus at the USC School of Pharmacy, and Enrique Villaseñor, a native plant educator and healer, lead the plant walk on the medicinal uses of California native plants. Adams, and his co-authors of the book “Healing with Medicinal Plants of the West,” Enrique Villasenor, and Michelle Wong, will present traditional recipes for making healing medicines, and will be available afterward to sign their book.
They will discuss the uses of elder, white sage, black sage, California sagebrush, California bay, mugwort, and many more. You will learn the specific recipes for making your own foot soaks, external linament, and healthful drink.
NOTE: Participants are asked to bring glass pint jars, 70% rubbing alcohol, and a mug for nopales. Also suggested is a folding chair.
We’ll discuss some of the ideal literature about healing with herbs, and some of the herbs you can grow in your own yard.
Books by Dr. Adams will be available, as well as pre-made herbal linaments.
If you have special requests, let us know ahead of time.
