Learn about the many plant contributions of Native Americans to our culture today – plants for food, medicine, and tools. You’ll get to see these plants that are in many cases very common, and simply taken for granted, without generally recognition of their rich history. This will be a botanical exploration of the many plants of the Americas that many of us still use today.
We begin with the many plants from the Americas which have profoundly affected the diet of the world.
On our walk, you will get to see many of these plants and learn h ow they were used.
Of course, in today’s world, we will see many wild plants that have been introduced from Europe and Asia and elsewhere. We will discuss these plants if native peoples began to use them after they were introduced into North America.
We will make one or two food dishes from native foods, so bring your bowl and cup
