Color by Nature: Plant Dyeing and Ethnobotany Walk

Details

Enjoy a plant day with guest leader and fiber-artist, Amy Stewart, and Rob Remedi for another plant-dyeing and ethnobotany class. We will focus on three native plants and the colors they yield for plant dyeing: Black Walnut (brown), Cactus-Cochineal (pink), and Sagebrush (yellow). The class will include an ethnobotany walk on the uses of plants.
We start with a short easy walk identifying plants, as well as which ones yield color. Upon our return, you'll learn the plant dyeing process and how to prepare different fibers (wool, cotton, silk) for dyeing. You will then make the dye bath and take home a cotton bandanna, along with samples of wool, yarn, and silk.
Join us on this fun, informative, and hands-on class, exploring nature's colorful and useful bounty!
$50.00 per person, includes a 100% cotton bandanna and the above sample strands of materials.
RSVP required. 6 person minimum; 10 person limit.
Details and information sent upon RSVP.
