Ring Cycle

Details

The ride starts and ends at Amberley Station near Arundel. It immediately takes us high onto the South Downs National Park for some great off-road riding and fantastic views towards the coast. We meet at Amberley Station at car park at 10am, the train from Victoria arrives at 9.58 with cheap return tickets available at around £11. If you're coming by car there's free parking at the station. From the car park we go up the Great Titten onto the South Downs. The route follows high along the South Downs Way to Chanctonbury Ring, a Bronze Age hill fort steeped in history. Local legend has it that Chanctonbury Ring was created by the Devil and that he can be summoned by running around the clump of trees seven times anti-clockwise. When he appears he will offer the summoner a bowl of soup in exchange for their soul. We then head to Cissbury Ring which is the largest hillfort in Sussex and has a history dating back over 5,000 years. After Cissbury it's a short ride to lunch at the The Gun Inn Findon winner of the Great British Pub Award in 2022. It has a lovely beer garden which is ideal for bikes:

After lunch we continue along the Monarch's Way through forests and fields to Arundel where we connect with riverside tracks taking us back to Amberley Station. There are some challenging off-road tracks so an MTB and good riding skills will be required for this ride.

A note of caution for those taking the train to Amberley from Clapham Junction, please make sure that it is the train that actually stops at Amberley and not the through train that only stops at Arundel. Please read carefully the timetable.

A £4 FEE APPLIES PAYABLE ON THE DAY
