Beginner Backpacking: JDF Trail Sombrio Beach to Chin Beach

This is an introductory hiking trip for people new to backpacking.
We may do a one-night trip on the Juan de Fuca Trail . Details to be confirmed.
This overnight hike/camp return trip on one section of the Juan de Fuca Trail is a great introductory opportunity to try out backpacking and meet like-minded new backpackers at the beginning of the season. Preference will be given to those who are new to or trying to restart backpacking.
TRIP OVERVIEW
Juan de Fuca Trail (most likely option)
DAY 1: June 3rd (Saturday)
- 8am - meet at Thetis Lake overflow parking lot for carpooling and drive to the trailhead (~90KM distance from Victoria)
- 9:30am - Hike from Sombrio Beach (trail head), reach Chin Beach (~7KM) and setup the camp for overnight camping (enjoy dinner and campfire together, assuming no fire bans)
DAY 2: June 4 (Sunday)
- 9AM - after breakfast, pack-up the camp and start hiking back toward Sombrio Beach (~7KM)
- Return to Victoria
DETAILS
- Those who carpool will share fuel cost; carpooling arrangements to be discussed at planning meeting
- Everyone pays own cost for BC Parks ($10 per person per night) online (https://discovercamping.ca/BCCWeb/Memberships/CustomerOverNightMemberships.aspx) or at trailhead (cash envelope)

- Leave No Trace principles apply and must be respected by all
- You are responsible for your own safety
- No dogs
MANDATORY FOR PARTICIPATION
- Participate in the compulsory in-person pre-trip meeting scheduled by the organizers on May 24th (Wednesday) at 6:30pm to discuss details of the trip, travel logistics along with any prep & gear related topics. VENUE - TO BE CONFIRMED LATER

- Provide an emergency phone # to the organizer before the trip
- Pay EVENT FEE: $10 per participant for all multi-day/overnight events. DISCLAIMER
Events are led by volunteers who have no special training such as first aid, survival, etc. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient and competent hikers who accept the risks and hazards associated with an outdoor activity, along with the regular use of rough and steep trails in isolated areas and adverse conditions.
The organizer may refuse participation where there are concerns that may impact safety and well-being of the group
