2026 Saturdays in the Santa Monica Mountains #4 – Hondo Canyon to Saddle Peak

Join us on our fourth hike in the Wilderness Adventures Section 2026 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series. This outing is a 10-miles, 2300' gain out and back hike on the Backbone Trail up Hondo Canyon to Saddle Peak (2789’) including fossils on the Fossil Trail.

Meet at 7:30 AM at the Hondo Canyon Backbone Trailhead (take Old Topanga Canyon Road mile from Topanga Canyon Boulevard; very limited parking in dirt on street). If coming from PCH, do not make a left turn into the small parking area. Rather, drive less than 1/2 mile further until you reach a straight part of the road. Safely turn around and drive back to the trailhead. Carpools encouraged.

Bring water, lunch, hiking shoes, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.
