Join us for a day of adventure in the Scodie Mountains and Kiavah Wilderness! We’ll take the less-traveled HPS Route 3 to the summit of Scodie Mountain, beginning on an old road before heading cross-country through a steep gully to a saddle. From there, we’ll climb along the ridge to the 7,294-foot summit, enjoying expansive views of the surrounding southern Sierra and Mojave Desert along the way. The return takes a different route through the soft, steep terrain before reconnecting with the road and heading back to the trailhead.

The Kiavah Wilderness sits at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada, where the Mojave Desert and Sierra ecosystems meet. This unique transition zone supports an interesting mix of desert vegetation alongside pinyon pine, juniper, and canyon oak. Expect approximately 6 miles of travel, 2,600 feet of elevation gain, and several miles of cross-country terrain.

This outing is being led as part of a Sierra Club I-Provisional Leader qualification.
