All-inclusive Beginner Backpacking Adventure, Fort Mountain State Park

Details

Situated at the southwestern end of the Cohutta Mountains near the Cohutta Wilderness, Fort Mountain State Park sits at 2,850 ft above sea level and features easy or moderate hiking around a majestic mountain lake. It's long range views are great for viewing the beautiful Fall colors, and connecting with the natural beauty of the South. We will hike along the Gahuti Mountain Trail along the perimeter of the park for 2-4 miles depending on group's aspirations. After arriving at the campsite, additional exploratory hikes are possible (without packs). After a night of relaxation, great conversation, and wilderness instruction, we will awake the next morning and hike out, taking time to enjoy all the majestic views.

This 1-night/2-day backpacking trip will introduce you to the joys of backpacking, while minimizing the barriers to entry (backpacking gear, planning, security, and logistics). All you have to do is show up with a good pair of hiking boots or trail shoes, meals, and clothes, and we will take care of the rest. In addition to learning the fundamentals of backpacking and discovering the beauty of the wilderness, you will learn basic survival skills and commune this your fellow campers around a warm campfire, allowing you to disconnect and recharge.
