Raking the Hog Trough field
Details
Every year a field of chalk grassland (part of Woodland Trust's Bisham Woods) is cut. We need to remove the cut material from the field to prevent build up of nutrients. By doing this it allows the special chalk loving plants to thrive. Just before this event it will have been cut. We need a gang of you to rake the cut material in this steep sloping field ("Pigtrough Field") to the bottom.
This field is slowly returning to one with a glorious mixture of chalk loving wildlife - a rare habitat in our local region.
The site is on the left hand side of A308 Marlow Road when coming from Maidenhead. The entrance is via the lay-by on the left - look out for the sharp corner chevrons (>>>>) at the far end of the lay-by. To park turn right up the track which is just beyond the lay-by (look out for more chevrons <<). Drive up this track, through a gate which will be open just for the day, and park at the entrance to Inkydown Wood. Look out for WMCV/Wild Maidenhead signs. Please be very careful when crossing the A308.
It is important to wear stout footwear as the site is steep and the ground is very uneven in places. Bring a waterproof as there is no cover and who knows what the weather will be doing!
Meet at 10am. There will be a tea break at 11.30am (tea, coffee and biscuits provided). Stay for as long as you like. WMCV will be there and will stay until mid afternoon; if you'd like to join us please bring a light lunch.
All tools will be provided.
No children or dogs please.
