SAM BRANCH ROCK SCRAMBLE - 4 WATERFALLS

This is one of the steepest rock scrambles in the area. We will not be on a trail most of the time, but in the creek, climbing up rocks. Most of the creek seems to be a continuous waterfall. Both the Lower and the Upper Falls are spectacular to see. And the views looking across the Shining Rock Wilderness are something to remember.
If you are confident when scrambling up rocks and walking in the water you will be welcome to join us. This is the first time I have offered to lead this hike for the group. We will see 4 waterfalls, including Sunburst Falls, Lower Sam Branch, Upper Sam Branch, and Wash Hollow Falls.
We will do this as an up and back. Elevation gain is approximately 1,600 feet and the distance is approx. 4 miles.
We do not expect a large group of participants since not everyone would like this challenge. However this hike will proceed as we have several regulars participating. We will meet at the Sam Knob Parking Lot at the end of Black Balsam Knob Road (FS 816) at 10 AM. We will shuttle from there to the hike commencement near Sunburst Falls (35.338265, -82.903358) on State Hwy 215.
