This walk starts by going up to the Abbey (founded 1881). You will pass stations of the cross, a small grotto, a pioneer church and cemetery, and chapel on the campus. The route then goes through this unique German town passing St. Mary's Church, the Glockenspiel Restaurant (largest Gloceknspiel in the US), a second pioneer cemetery, a hops field, 2 park and an historic railroad station. Walk is rated 2 because of the Abbey hill, the rest of the walk is 1.
Driving Directions: From the north on I-5, take the Woodburn Exit 271. Follow the signs east to Mt. Angel along Hwy. 214. Turn left on Church Street. From the south on I-5 take Market St Exit 256 (Salem). Follow signs east along Hwy 213 to Silverton. At the traffic light, turn left on "C" St to First St. Turn left on First St/Hwy. 214 to Mt. Angel. Turn right on Church St. Follow Church St. up the hill (Church becomes College St.) to Towers Lane on Left.
