William C Daldy Coaling Day

Details

Goal of the Day is to steam the William C Daldy over to Wynyard take on a coal load in preparation for the summer sailing season. The day will also be used as an induction event to new interested volunteers.

Rough agenda for the day as follows;
Meet at 8.30 am at the gangway on Victoria Wharf at Devonport.
Prepare the vessel for departure - taking the mooring lines in etc.

(the experienced crew will be showing the newcomers on what to do from here - go through safety briefing for working onboard a vessel etc.)

10am depart to Wynyard to load coal.
Secure vessel to wharf and prepare for the coal truck arrival.

The loading coal process can take a few hours. Halfway through we will need to turn the vessel to load the other side.

After loading finished we will clean up and depart back to Devonport.
All the lines will need to be put back out to secure vessel back on Victoria Wharf.

Estimated to be finished by 3pm.
However, you are free to come and go anytime you like, except when we are in the middle of the harbour.
This is a fully volunteer group!

Recommend to wear cloths that can get dirty or bring a change of cloths. Bring water, a packed lunch (shops will be nearby for you to go out and buy some too), sunscreen and a hat, covered shoes.

No prior experience is needed to take part in this.
Our current volunteer crew ranges from retired sailors, students, nurses, painters, tradies, teachers, artists, farmers, IT and more backgrounds.

We are all united in our interest for this heritage tug that is like no other in the world.
