Experience the Magic of Migration: A Coastal Birding Adventure!

Imagine standing under a canopy of live oaks as a vibrant Blackburnian Warbler—glowing like a living ember—flits just a few feet away. This is the magic of the Texas coast in spring, and I would love for you to experience it with me!

I’m thrilled to invite you on our upcoming WAG Weekender, a three-day immersion into the heart of the Greater Corpus Christi area. This is, without a doubt, my favorite place to be during migration. There is a specific kind of electricity in the air when the "fallouts" happen and the trees drip with colorful warblers, tanagers, and buntings.

Our Coastal Itinerary
We’ve created a "greatest hits" list of migration hotspots to ensure we see the very best the coast has to offer. Our adventure includes:

  • Mustang Island Gems: We’ll explore the lush vegetation of The Willows, the famous Paradise Pond, and the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center.
  • Corpus Christi Classics: We’ll hunt for "skulkers" and songsters at Blucher Park, Rose Hill Cemetery, and the migrant-rich Packery Channel.
  • The Inland Giants: We’ll head to Hazel Bazemore Park, a legendary spot for both passerines and raptors.
  • The "Chase": Because birds have wings, we’ll stay flexible! If a rarity pops up nearby, we’re going for it.

Comfort & Connection
To make sure we are rested and ready for early morning birding, we are returning to the Candlewood Suites in Aransas Pass. Those of you who joined us for the Whooping Crane trip know how much we loved this spot—it’s clean, comfortable, and perfectly situated for quick access to both Port Aransas and Corpus Christi.

Bonus Learning: Before we head out, I’ll be hosting a special class at the Georgetown Library. We’ll deep-dive into identifying those "confusing" warblers and other beautiful passerines so you’ll feel like a pro by the time we hit the field!
