π» ABOUT ALFONSO PONTICELLI Played by the Romany tribes of Southeast Europe, the Flamencos of Spain, and eventually the jazzmen of France and America, Gypsy music is the original "world music" β and Alfonso Ponticelli is Chicago's most prominent representative of this extraordinary tradition. π
Ponticelli learned his craft the authentic way β visiting and studying in Gypsy camps in France and the mountains and caves of Spain, even traveling and performing out of his own Vardo (Gypsy wagon)! π He has held a weeknight Gypsy jazz residency at the Green Mill for nearly 20 years, taught Gypsy jazz guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and has hosted the annual Chicagoland Gypsy Jazz Festival since 2003. A true Chicago original! πΈ

ποΈ ABOUT THE GREEN MILL
The Green Mill Cocktail Lounge has been an Uptown institution since 1907 β originally named Pop Morse's Roadhouse and later renamed a nod to the famous Moulin Rouge of Paris.
πΉ During Prohibition, Jack McGurn of Al Capone's Chicago Outfit became a part-owner, and Al Capone's favorite booth is still there today, directly west of the short end of the bar. After Prohibition, the Green Mill became one of Chicago's most celebrated jazz destinations and has never looked back. A true Chicago treasure! π·
