German (and Austrian?) Wine Tasting with food

German (and Austrian?) Wine Tasting with food

Details

Time for a wine tasting!

As Nijmegen is so close to the German border it seems right to try some German wine. We cycled along the Mosel a few summers ago and really enjoyed the wine and discovered that all Riesling doesn't have to be sweet and sickly! This website (http://www.germanwineusa.com/press-trade/german-grape-varieties.html) has information on some of the 140 grape varieties grown in Germany!

Everyone should bring a bottle that costs between 15Euros to 20Euros. Please post the varietal of wine (not the maker!) that you're intending to bring so we don't have similar wines.

I hope Roel will give advice on the line-up for example 3 dry whites, 3 reds, 3 sweeter whites - watch this space!

We will share the cost of some extra special wines that we will provide and taste. To provide the organizer(s) with a clear budget, we have decided to ask for payment in advance. If you Rsvp'd and paid, but decide not to come, someone on the waiting list can take your place and your share will be refunded. If your payment is not received within a week of your Rsvp, your spot will be offered to the first person on the waiting list. So please, arrange for the payment immediately after your Rsvp.

Now to food: we're going to have a 'pot luck' which means that everyone will bring a dish of food that contributes to the German theme. You don't have to cook anything elaborate, it could be as easy as buying some cold meat! Other suggestions are pretzels, red cabbage, sauerkraut and cheeses. A rough budget of 5 euros each? We'll co-ordinate nearer the time so we don't have too much of any one thing.

Erst mach' dein' Sach
dann trink' und lach!
