In celebration of International Open Data Day, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, City Of Winnipeg Open Data, Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism, Canada Computing and Launch Coworking, are hosting the 2026 Winnipeg Open Data Datathon .

This year's datathon theme is Smart City. Use City of Winnipeg Open Data to demonstrate how Smart City services can be deployed to make Winnipeg a great place to live, work, and visit.

Join us on this educational, day-long event to learn about the wide variety of useful and interesting datasets freely accessible from the City of Winnipeg Open Data Portal.

There will be presentations by the City of Winnipeg Open Data managers and Data Scientists showcasing new & interesting datasets, and innovative ways to access, analyze and transform Open Data into value-added data products.

Learn how to programmatically access Open Data via API's, and see live demonstrations of using various LLM-powered chatbots and AI tools to analyze and summarize Open Data.

For the Datathon team participants, there will be a pre-event remote meeting to review Datathon rules and event activities.

• 12:30 pm - Datathon Start
• 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm - Red Bull Energy Break
• 4:30 pm - Datathon Stop
• 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm - Team Presentations
• 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm - Prize Draws & Giveaways
• 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Post-Event Drinks & Networking

Important to know:

• You may attend event either as an observer, or as a Datathon competitor.

• For Datathon competitors, please let us know whether you are planning to compete in the Datathon in a team, who your team members are, or competing solo (team registration sheet coming soon).

• Datathon participants must participate in-person onsite.

• There are no fees to attend this event as an observer or Datathon participant.

• Each Datathon team may include a single participant or up to 4 team members.

• On-site food service & drinks will be provided at the venue (Launch Coworking - Exchange).

• Datathon participants must supply their own computer system.

• All Datathon team participants are eligible for random draws to win valuable prizes donated by Canada Computing and Launch Coworking.
