About us
Winterfat Presse is a feminist poetry collective. Our reading room, writing circle, and publication celebrates the body in all of its revolutions and uprisings, of which there are many. We believe in the power of live spoken-word events to invite the unpredictable exchange of voices, writing circles that ask us to enter our bodies in informal and thus, more lasting ways—all exchanges that poetically challenge our predispositions and open new perspectives.
Winterfat is a space where self-expression is held, legitimized, and accessible. Our reading rooms always feature a selected author whose work explores resistance through its embodied poetics, and our writing groups always center intuitive prompts that challenge the 'truths' the empire feeds us about our lives.

Winterfat Writing Circle: problems of personhood
Camperdown Elm @ Prospect Park, 101 East Dr, Kings County, NY, USWinterfat Writing Circle is a subset of Winterfat Presse. Our goal is to create intuitive spaces where writers and readers can enter into their body and re-imagine their self-experience, particularly through dissident ethics/poetics. Our editorial team draws from authors like Audre Lorde, Gwendolyn Brooks, and June Jordan. This writing circle's theme is: "problems of personhood".
Each writing circle uses the same format, but addresses a different theme. We begin with brief introductions, and then collectively read a relevant piece of writing to the prompt, which our team crafts uniquely for each group. We review and discuss the prompt, then have individual writing time. This is followed by an optional open mic and shared reflection portion.
Please bring something to sit on, a writing utensil and paper, and an open mind and heart! Maybe also a snack :) The event will last around two hours. This includes sharing at the end.
- THERE IS NO ATTENDANCE LIMIT BUT MEETUP DOES NOT ALLOW US TO LIST MORE AVAILABLE SPACES. YOU CAN JUST SHOW UP!
