June 2016 - IoT Presentation and IoT hands-on lab

Details
Presentation:
There is nothing more exciting than participating in the explosion of new products and technology such as is being witnessed today. The opportunities are endless when we realize that we are experiencing a time when nearly every device in our world will add “smart” to its name. First there were smartphones, and then tablets, now there are new products and devices every day. Just a quick browse of Kickstarte (https://www.kickstarter.com/)r and Indiegogo (https://www.indiegogo.com/) will illustrate the growing number of individuals who are staking their claims in this exploding opportunity. And the next great new product will be … what is that product you are going to design and build?
Join us for a Hands-on Lab. There is nothing more motivating than your first successful IoT project. You will be working with the Particle microcontroller (https://www.particle.io/) (generously donated by Microsoft for use in the lab) and building a weather station.
Please Note! Thanks to the support of Mitch Muenster, Michael Steineke, and Brian Lewis for help on the hands-on lab.
Lab Software Install Prerequisites:
Here are the IoT lab prerequisite software install requirements WINET-IOT-PreReqs.pdf. (http://www.klines.org/WINET-IoT/WINET-IOT-PreReqs.pdf) It is highly recommended that the software be installed prior to the meeting to ensure you will be able to complete the lab in the 2 hour time-frame.
Please note: This meeting will be a hands-on lab. You'll need to bring your laptop and be ready to have fun. The Lab may take about 2 hours so we will get started promptly and stay tuned as more information will be provided shortly to help you download software in advance to prepare your laptop for the session.
We hope to see you there and participating in a new and exciting side to computers, coding and product design and development. Stay tuned for more information.
Speaker: Dan Kline
I'm a passionate geek with over 30 years of experience in hardware, networks and software exploration. I love web application coding. I've become impassioned with the IoT and Makerspace world, which has presented me with the opportunity to meld the electronics, mechanical, and software skills that have always excited me. I love JavaScript, HTML and CSS. In my spare time, I ride my Harley, have been a volunteer and supporter of the arts and environmental organizations. Most of all, I like to teach and learn and have fun with friends.
