Details

Presentation: Micro frontends in the world in the world of micro services

In the past decade, backend development is leap frogged from monolithic to microservices and serverless architectures. Interestingly frontends took the opposite route. It went from bunch of web pages to monolithic like large and complex Single Page Applications. At Montage, in last 5 years, we went from classic ASPX pages to AngularJs. Now we are making another transition from AngularJS to React; this time with a twist. Instead of making one large Single Page Application, we are developing handfull micro-frontends/microapps in React.
In this talk, we will discuss our needs, motivations, architecture, implementations, pitfalls and lessons learned along the way in this journey.

  • We will cover the following topics,
  • What are micro frontends?
  • Where can it be useful?
  • What are the tradeoffs?
  • Does it involve major architectural changes?
  • High Level architecture.
  • Overview of backend/server development
  • Overview of Javascript development.
