Event Description
What does it mean to flourishânot just to feel good, but to live in a way that nourishes yourself, others, and the world?
In this weekâs Wisdom & Compassion gathering, weâll explore flourishing as a lived practice. Drawing from psychology, mindfulness, philosophy, and contemplative wisdom, weâll use a curated set of quotes as springboards for interactive dialogue, reflection, and shared insight.
Together, weâll look at flourishing through three intertwined lenses:
⨠1. Flourishing by Doing Good
Flourishing isnât a solo projectâitâs relational, communal, and expressed through the impact we have on others.
Barbara Fredrickson reminds us that flourishing is âbeyond feeling good⌠itâs doing goodâadding value to the world.â Jane Goodall echoes this with her gentle challenge: âYou have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.â
Weâll explore how kindness, contribution, and meaningful work become the soil in which a thriving life grows.
đ§ 2. Flourishing by Being Present
Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that if we canât wash the dishes with presence, we wonât truly drink our tea either. The Buddha points us back to the only moment we ever actually have: the present one.
Weâll reflect on how mindfulness, attention, and daily habits shape our identity and our capacity to flourishâone moment, one breath, one action at a time.
đ 3. The Sacredness of Consciousness
Thomas Merton describes contemplation as âspontaneous awe at the sacredness of life.â Mary Oliver offers her simple instructions: âPay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.â
Weâll explore how awareness itself becomes a gateway to meaning, connection, and a deeper sense of aliveness.
