What we’re about
Paddling, hiking, painting, photographing our blackwater rivers, creeks, lakes, and swamps in central south Georgia and north Florida. Monthly outings, workshops, and other events in the Suwannee River Basin.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- More chainsaw from Langdale Park, Withlacoochee Riverlangdale park, Valdosta, GA
Join us to float down about a 1/3 of a mile to a cluster of 4 trees where we stopped last trip, still clearing passage through deadfalls (trees across the river) from Hurricane Helene. The river is very low, so we will be taking a canoe, and you can too, or a kayak.
Nobody has to saw. You can come pick up trash, photograph, or just float along. This will be a very brief paddle. We’ll be back Saturday for more. You can join us then, too.
Bring: the usual personal flotation device, boat, paddles, food, drinking water, warm clothes, and first aid kit. Also trash pickers and trash bags: every WWALS outing is also a cleanup. Please follow Leave No Trace principles by packing out all trash, avoiding damage to vegetation, and respecting wildlife.
If you have a chainsaw and know how to use it, bring it along. Or a sawzall or handsaw, which is especially good for small underwater limbs. But you do not have to saw: you can pick up trash, or photograph, or just paddle along.
Safety: Be on time. If you miss the safety briefing, you cannot paddle with us. Each person in a boat, no matter how young or old, must wear a PFD.
Free: This outing is free to everyone, because it is a cleanup!
You can help with clean, swimmable, fishable, drinkable, water in the 10,000-square-mile Suwannee River Basin in Florida and Georgia by becoming a WWALS member today!

Join us to paddle downstream from Langdale Park Boat Ramp to clear passage through whatever we encounter on the Withlacoochee River. Yes, we are still clearing passage through deadfalls from Hurricane Helene.
The Withlacoochee River is very low, so we will be taking a canoe, and you can too, or a kayak. Nobody has to saw. You can come pick up trash, photograph, or just float along.
Take Out: Langdale Park Boat Ramp. Unless we’re really lucky and get all the way through; then you’ll be able to paddle up to Troupville Boat Ramp on the Little River. But don’t count on that. Most likely we’ll have to paddle back up to Langdale Park Boat Ramp.
Bring: the usual personal flotation device, boat, paddles, food, drinking water, warm clothes, and first aid kit. Also trash pickers and trash bags: every WWALS outing is also a cleanup.

Safety: Be on time. If you miss the safety briefing, you cannot paddle with us. Each person in a boat, no matter how young or old, must wear a PFD.
You must have a light for your boat or some type of light to have on yourself (glow sticks work well, or head lamp, flashlight, etc.) so other boaters can see you in the dark. It will be totally dark after sunset.
A whistle is not required, but it’s a good idea in the dark.
