Alapaha River Paddle & Dead River Hike

Details
Paddle 3.6 miles down the Alapaha River from Sasser Landing near Jennings Fl. to Jennings Bluff Landing, then take a two-hour hike roundtrip up the Dead River to the Dead River Sink with Practicing Geologist Dennis Price. If the Alapaha is low enough, we will also see two sinks in that river just before the Dead River Confluence.
There is nothing else quite like this in Florida (or Georgia). Dennis Price for years has been recommending a state park here, at these jewels of the Alapaha River Water Trail.
The Dead River itself is a distributary: the Alapaha River runs into it, down into the Dead River Sink, and does not come back up for twenty miles on the Suwannee River.
We will meet at Sasser Landing and drop boats and gear. Please come on time and be ready to help shuttle vehicles to the takeout, 15 miles round trip to Jennings Bluff Landing. From Jennings, FL, travel south on US 41 to NW 25 Lane; turn left; travel east to NW 82 Court and the entrance into the Jennings Bluff tract; turn left and follow road to canoe launch. Be aware these are dirt roads with some soft sand. Some gps's do not work in these off-road areas but we'll travel together.
Depending on river conditions this takeout can be challenging. There are a set of stairs which kayaks must be pulled up. It can be very muddy if the river is low.
