Big Shoals - Suwannee River Paddle

Details

This outing is not recommended for young children or those with limited physical mobility. Some climbing, lifting and scrambling over tree roots will be involved, don't let that discourage you from coming, it's a great opportunity to enjoy one of the most unusual sights on the river. Geologist Dennis Price will be leading us and can answer questions about this amazing area of rapids on the Suwannee River. We will launch from Big Shoals State Park, paddle 1 mile down to the beginning of the portage trail around Big Shoals. Pack light as you will need to carry everything approximately 1/4 of a mile over roots and uneven ground. Then we get back in our boats and paddle on through Little Shoals and to our takeout at Suwannee Wayside Park.
Have at least one tow rope on your boat, bow and stern is even better, to help lower your boat back into the water after the portage. Everyone must wear a PFD at all times.
Please come on time and be ready to help with the shuttle to the take out at Suwannee Wayside Park in White Springs.
Free: This outing is free to WWALS members, and $10 for non-members. You can pay at the outing, or online: https://wwals.net/outings
