Alapahoochee River Cleanup

Details
Join us on the beautiful Alapahoochee for a cleanup that includes some clearing of deadfall but we'll also paddle under historic Beaty Bridge-one of the oldest truss bridges in Florida; explore interesting side creeks; walk, float or be dragged through Devil Shoals; and cool off at Turket Creek Waterfall. Wear appropriate shoes, the shoals can be sharp.
Most paddlers will collect trash and some of us will have chainsaws to open blockages from deadfall. This is a short but possibly strenuous paddle, so it is not recommended for beginners. Everyone must wear a PFD at all times. Be prepared for the possibility of needing to line your kayak down a small set of rapids, having a tow rope on your boat is essential.
When: Gather 9 AM, launch 10 AM, end 2 PM. Come on time and be prepared to help with the shuttle.
Put In: GA 135 Alapahoochee Landing, Between Jennings, Florida, and Statenville, Ga.
Take Out: Sasser Landing on the Alapaha River.
Bring: Cleanup materials will be provided, but if you’ve got a trash picker, bring it along. Bring ropes for the front and back of your boat, for lowering down the steep sand slope below the GA 135 bridge, and for hauling over deadfalls and rapids.
Free: This outing is free to everyone! Thanks to Bird Chamberlain, who lives nearby, for leading this outing.
