Okefenokee Paddle & Cast Iron Campfire Cookout

Details
Join us for a relaxing winter weekend of paddling the Okefenokee, rustic camping, and campfire cooking. You can arrive anytime Friday evening. Tent, hammock and car campers do not need a reservation. We have the Red Top shelter #4 reserved and you can pitch your tent anywhere in that area. Camping fees are $15 per person per night, plus $8 for an addition person. Please have exact change. If you need hookup for a camper, call and reserve a site.
Saturday morning we'll leave camp at 8:30 and drive to Stephen C. Foster State park to launch. State Park fees apply, you can borrow a state park pass from any Ga. library if you don't already have a pass. National Park Passes are also acceptable for entry.
We'll paddle first to historic Billy's Island and take a short hike, then head back down river, passing Mixon's Hammock and on through the Narrows and the Sill. We'll take a lunch stop at the Sill and then head on to our take out at Griffis landing for a total of approximately 11 miles. Leave No Trace by packing out all trash, avoiding damage to vegetation, and respecting wildlife.
Back at camp we'll get the fire going and start cooking! Cooking is always optional but the more the merrier. There is no menu, absolutely anything goes. This is potluck at it's finest and all for campfire fun. Come sit around the fire and show us what you can do with your old cast iron, or roast hot dogs on a stick. Bring your own plates/bowls/utensils/drinks to help reduce waste.
Bring some firewood if you can, it gets dark early in December so we'll want to enjoy a nice campfire both nights and, most important, we'll need it for cooking Saturday night.
Sunday morning will be a leisurely packing up, drinking coffee and eating cinnamon rolls cooked by the fire in a cast iron dutch oven.
