River is low and shoals are exposed so lets go exploring. We'll launch from the steps at Big Shoals State Park launch site and paddle one mile to the portage. Then we'll walk out to the shoals and enjoy the unusual view of shoals that are usually covered with rushing water. This could be the prettiest lunch spot you've ever had.
Follow Leave No Trace principles by packing out all trash, avoiding damage to vegetation, and respecting wildlife.
Everyone must wear a PFD while paddling.
This is a beautiful section of the Suwannee River, the current is slow, we'll paddle back towards the takeout and for those who want to paddle further we can paddle on up the river and back. No shuttle.
If you have wheels they could come in handy for the long walk from parking lot to the launch site.
Safety: Be on time. If you miss the safety briefing, you cannot paddle with us.
Free: This outing is free to WWALS members, and $10 for non-members. Please prepay online: https://wwals.net/outings. Or bring cash to the outing.
