Introduction to WMA
We'll continue hosting a series of introductory walks aimed at WMA members who are returning to walking, building up distance/fitness, on a recovery plan following injury and/or want to walk and learn more about the WMA team and hosts. It's probably an ideal opportunity to see if the group is for you before launching into our 10k+ City Park walks and/or Bush walks as we near the Perth hiking season.
Walks will start from the Partisan Cafe in Claisebrook Cove, East Perth. We'll take in the Cove, Matagarup Bridge, the outside of Optus Stadium, Windan Bridge, Heiresson Island/Causeway before returning to the Partisan for an optional coffee and catch-up.
Meet: Partisan Cafe, Claisbrook Cove, EAST PERTH (Click on map for the exact meeting point)
Parking: There is plenty of free parking on Wittenoom St and paid parking on Royal Street
Distance: 7 km. However, there is the ability to do a shorter walk.

Just a little south of Armadale is a fantastic walk to the Wungong Dam.
The trail follows the Wungong Brook along a deep and picturesque valley starting from the South Western Highway through to the Wungong Dam. Enjoy beautiful bushland and lovely views across the coastal plain and reservoir. At the right time of the year the creek is flowing and the wildflowers are in full bloom.
The entire track is a loop heading in a counter clockwise direction. An easy start as it follows Wungong Creek which has a steady incline. On the way back, after the dam, the track has a challenging, steep goat track that will put a smile on your face then it is flat the majority of the way before heading down a steep descent back to the trailhead.
We will be walking in mild temperatures from 17°C to 18°C with hopefully the sun peeking through the clouds. A little precipitation is expected overnight with possibly more during the walk, I'm taking an umbrella.
Where: MeetUp at the Start of Wungong Gorge Track, (GPS -32.192583, 116.016194), Click on the map and your GPS will take you to the exact starting point.
Parking: Parking at the MeetUp point.
Difficulty: 13km and 418m elevation gain. This is a fairly challenging walk up through the valley. After the dam we climb a goat track in a short 300m section with a 100m elevation then a pleasant flat hilltop walk followed by a long, very steep decent as we return to our cars. This walk should only be attempted by regular hikers, if you are new to hiking or recovering from injury you should not attempt this one. The path can be muddy after rain.
Toilets: 2 at the dam and also later at the café.
What to bring: Hat, 1.5L water and wet weather gear just in case. Poles and proper hiking shoes are recommended.
Café after the walk: Join us at the Dome in Armadale for a coffee, bite to eat and chat after the walk. 10 Orchard Ave, Armadale WA 6112 Dome
All trails maps: Wungong Dam via Wungong CreekWungong Dam began as a small concrete pipehead dam in 1925 to solve the growing population’s water shortage problem. Work on the current dam began in 1975, and was completed in 1979.

Join us for a workout along the internal bush trails of the beautiful Bold Park near City Beach. Expect a brisk hike, with an average speed of around 6kph, on undulating bush tracks with a few significant hills thrown in for fun.
At about 6km in length, this one hour workout is a great way to finish the day.
These hikes are intended for fit, regular walkers who are looking for more of a workout in nature as opposed to a gentle evening stroll.
So you don't get lost. Here is the map. 😁
