Darlington to Greenmount Lookout, 2 Quarries and Nyaania Creek (10.5km)

Details
This might be your last chance to hike my favourite trail.
This is a shorter version of the walk we completed a month ago but still offers all of the treasures. With less rain in this small catchment area the water level in the creek will be lower and the track a little drier.
Long range forecast is predicting 12 to 20°C with no rain.
This hike is best done late winter and early spring as the Nyaania Creek only flows with localised rains. Expect to do this hike in 3 - 3.5 hours plus coffee afterwards.
This track throws a diversity of experiences at you over its 10.5 km length and 354m elevation gain. It begins in Darlington starting gently with a walk along the railway heritage track, then we cross into Greenmount National Park and hike a most stunning bush track which winds its way up a stony crest, a little bush bashing takes us to Mountain Quarry with spectacular views of the city. We circle around the upper lip of the quarry before heading into its belly and then moving much further south to Nyaania Creek. This is an amazing, secret creek that only flows for about one month each year after heavy, local rains and presents many cascading waterfalls as it steeply descends over rocky granite outcrops. The track and water crossing is challenging whilst you walk a narrow, precipitous edge along the sides of this valley as you take in its great views. Expect your heart to be working hard. We then enter Boya Quarry before making our way up one last hill back to the railway heritage track and a well deserved cup of coffee at The Hive in Darlington.
.
Where: Darlington Oval, Owen Rd, Darlington (Click on map for exact meeting point)
Parking: Plenty of parking at the oval near the pin drop
Distance: 10.5km. Elevation gain 354m and just over 3 hours of walking time.
Difficulty: A rewarding hike for regular walkers. We will have easy walking for 3km along the flat dirt terrain of the old railway heritage trail with a brisk walking pace of 5.5 - 6km/h. Expect 3 decent hills to climb, a valley to ford, loose sharp rocky tracks, some narrow and overgrown. This is a challenging hike and should not be attempted if you are new to hiking or recovering from injury. 😯 I would recommend walking poles and waterproof hiking shoes.
What to bring: Water, good hiking shoes, poles, hat, sunscreen & possibly wet weather gear.
Toilets: At the start/end at the Darlington Oval as well as at Mountain Quarry.
Café after the walk: We will share a chat, coffee and bite to eat at The Hive. This is a fabulous café, probably the best in this part of the hills.
AllTrails route can be viewed here: Darlington to Mountain Quarry, Nyaania Creek & Boya (10.5km)

We aim to set-off for each walk at the advertised time and as a general rule, we set off on-time for each walk.
