Following our amazing weekend in September we decided to do it again but when the weather is warmer and dryer.
When: The main weekend will be from Friday at 2pm for those booking into their accommodation until Sunday after the hike. Some people will then drive home from there, others will stay Sunday night and go back to Perth on Monday.
The intention is to do a few of the beautiful walks in the Stirling Ranges and Porongurups. There are quite a few to consider and a calendar of events will be posted closer to the date.
Accomodation: We are staying at the Stirling Range Retreat. 8639 Chester Pass Rd. (Click on the map for GPS exact location.) This morning there were on site vans, cabins and even a mud brick cabin still available. For cabins you can contact Stirling Range Retreat on Ph: 98279229 or log online here Booking. Please mention you're with Walking Mates Australia so that they can try to keep us together. Pool with others and reduce your costs.
Camping sites to share: I have booked 3 unpowered sites for those who want to camp with me at $20 per night. You will need your own tent, rooftop tent, car or swag. You may choose to stay with me either 2 or 3 nights. PM me your E.O.I. ASAP
If you have a camper trailer or caravan you may book a powered site ($50 per night) and I can arrange others to share the site and reduce your cost. Mention WMA when booking.
What to take: Food for 3 days and 2/3 nights. Clothing and camping gear. Expect cold nights so take a thick doonas and good sleeping bag. The weather in November is a little warmer but quite variable, be prepared to layer up for the cold and wet but we should have lovely warm, sunny days. Day packs for water & snacks, poles, hat, sunscreen, good hiking shoes, mosquito repellent. The campfire will not be operating but the swimming pool will.
The Bluff Knoll Café is 450m from our accommodation. They are open daily from 8am to 5pm. There are new owners and they are quite nice. The food is basic and the store has minimal stock but who can complain? Good for coffee, light meals and a chat after a hike. Take some ca$h as they have dodgy POS machine. (cash is useful for other transactions too)
Those leaving Perth on Friday morning, let's meet up at Williams Woolshed @ 11am for lunch and a break.
Mobile reception is very limited even with Telstra. Fine on top of the mountains. :-)
Please note in the Stirling Ranges there are charges for National Park Fees if you're helping with carpooling on Saturday & Sunday ($17 per day) if you have an annual pass please ensure you take it.
