Bear Creek Lake Paddle and then hike to Sols Creek Waterfall
Details
Come enjoy Bear Creek Lake (or as it’s commonly known: Bear Lake) with me on this flat water paddle and waterfall hike. We will start at 10am and head out on the kayaks (or canoes) upstream on our way to Sols Falls. We will take our time to enjoy the scenery along the way and checkout Big Branch Falls and Verde Falls. Once we get to the headwaters of Sols Creek, we will beach our boats and hike a 1/4 mile trail to the 120ft Sols Creek Falls.
After returning to our boats, we have a choice to make: either paddle back down the lake and finish our adventure; or depending on time and energy levels - there is another hike we can take to Flat Creek Falls. This is about a mile in from the shore and is pretty steep grade to the falls. These beautiful falls cascade down 200ft. Most people visit them coming from the other side and that hike is a total of 7 miles (also steep) versus the 1 mile in and 1 mile back from the lake shore.
The end time is stated as 3pm; but the actual end time depends on how fast we can paddle that day, lake and wind conditions and which option we choose at the end.
This Event: 1. Come Prepared: you must have a kayak or canoe, paddle and PFD (life jacket). Bring plenty of water and a snack or lunch. 2. This is rated as a moderate paddle and moderate hike (the hike to Flat Creek Falls is mre difficult due to the steep trail). The group nor the organizer of this event is responsible for paddlers’ and hikers' skill level. If you haven't hiked in the mountains in a while, this may not be the hike for you. 3. The group will start the paddle/hike promptly at 10am. Punctuality is key for participating in this event. 4. You are paddling and hiking at your own risk. By participating in this hike, you are waiving any of the Meetup Group's and/or Event Organizer's liability. Please reach out to Chuck with any questions. Contact info: Chuck Walzer 814-769-1852
