The Beauty Of Watercolors

Details

Come for the art and come for the architecture! Join us for The Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society's spring exhibition: a vivid showcase of various subject matter and styles being hosted at the Carnegie Art Center. Transparent watercolor and other experimentation with watermedia highlight what is possible and broadens the appreciation of the medium.

The building itself was built 1903-1904 for the Carnegie Library, a public library gifted to the City of North Tonawanda by Andrew Carnegie. It served as a public library for over 70 years, and is one of only three Carnegie Libraries in Western New York..

Many of the original Neoclassical interior and exterior architectural features from 1904 remain. The Carnegie Library is listed on both the State and National Register of Historic Sites and is a Local Landmark building within the Sweeney Estate National Register and Local Historic District.

It has served as the home for the Tonawanda Council on the Arts since 1975 and reopened as the Carnegie Art Center in 2012.
