What we’re about
Welcome to Women Building Generative AI (Learning Group)
This group is a hands-on collaborative space where we come together to learn and experiment the technology from the ground up — whether for research, professional growth, or applying it to causes we care about.
Why it Matters
Generative AI is rapidly shaping the future—transforming industries, boosting productivity, and redefining labor markets. The global generative AI market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 42% over the next 10 years, reaching $1.3 trillion by 2032 (source). This explosive growth presents a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping the future.
Yet, women remain vastly underrepresented among its creators. Without diverse voices in Gen AI development, biases encoded in AI and the misuse of these technologies (source) risk perpetuating inequalities across every domain they touch.
By getting involved in building and understanding these technologies, we can seize the opportunities in this growing field while helping shape a future where AI is more inclusive and reflective of all needs.
What to Expect: Hands-On Learning and Building
This isn’t about being an expert or teaching—it’s about learning together and figuring things out as we go.
- Learn by Replicating: Dive into foundational concepts through reading and discussions, then replicate mini-versions of models like GPT, LLAMA, Stable Diffusion, and more.
- Learn by Prototyping: Develop practical applications such as chatbots, image editors, and AI tools using frameworks like workflow, RAG and Agent-based systems and more.
- Learn by Innovating: Collaborate to brainstorm new ideas and take part in mini-hackathons, working on challenges like reducing bias in AI or combating unethical applications like deepfakes.
- Learn by Sharing: Share your knowledge, experiences, and insights with others in the group, contributing to a collaborative, growth-driven environment.
Formats
- Paper reading and discussion
- Workshops
- Mini-hackathons
- (Your ideas)
Most events will be held online, with some hybrid options available.
Who Should Join
This group is designed for women and girls who are:
- Eager to Learn and Build: Whether you have experience with generative AI or are just starting fresh, this group is for those ready to dive into the technical side, learn collaboratively, and develop impactful applications with like-minded peers.
- Exploring Different Paths in AI: Whether your goal is to gain new skills, contribute to research, integrate AI into your field, or simply see where this journey takes you, you’re welcome here.
- Curious and Collaborative: You’re excited to explore, share knowledge, and grow alongside others in a supportive environment.
Why Join Us?

See all- Sep 24 "Fine-tune AI Models with LoRA Workshop" - Women Building GenAI Session 5Needs location
📢 !!! Rescheduled !!! → Wed, Sep 24 @ 19:00 (London Time)
Lets us fine-tune AI into more specialized and useful versions.
🌐 Location: Online — shorturl.at/7nZZx
🎤 Speaker: Siqi Zhu (Software Developer, FinTech; M.A. specialized in AI, Cambridge University)
👩💻 This is a hands-on, collaborative group for women to explore generative AI tech and opportunities together. What’s This About?
Curious how to fine-tune big AI models without expensive labs or hardware?
In this session, you’ll learn LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) — a simple, efficient technique for customizing large AI models in Google Colab (with free GPU access). Why LoRA Matters
- 💸 Saves money (no need for costly retraining)
- 🤯 Keeps prior knowledge (doesn’t “forget” old skills)
- 💾 Tiny add-ons instead of massive new models
Think of it as a lightweight jacket for your model—you keep the base, but instantly add a new style. 🧥✨
Agenda
- LoRA 101 (20 min): What it is & why it matters
- Hands-On Training (30 min): Fine-tune your own mini model in Colab
- Use Case Jam (10 min): Brainstorm how to apply it in your projects
What You’ll Need
- Google account (for Colab)
- Internet connection 🌐
- Curiosity & creativity ✨
Speaker Bio
Siqi Zhu is a Software Developer in FinTech with a Master’s specialised in Artificial Intelligence from Cambridge University. She’s passionate about large language models and loves experimenting with them through side projects.
