Freelancing panel discussion

May's meetup is welcoming three speakers from different fields, who will share with us their freelancing journey! This will be the first time we will have three speakers at the same time with a structure of a panel discussion where questions will be asked and all the speakers will be replying to them, providing us with their expertise and tips.

Our speakers:

• Laura Damiano graduated in molecular biotechnology at the University of Turin, where she did also a PhD in cancer biology. After that (in 2010), she moved to San Francisco to perform a post doc on cancer biology as well. After three years, she decided that she wanted to move away from the lab work and made the jump into scientific writing. She became a freelance editor and continued her activity when she moved to the Netherlands in 2015. In 2018, she left her freelance activity to become part of the staff of the UMCG, where she is now a funding advisor, project manager and member of the working group on diversity and inclusion. In 2018 she also funded the Lean In Groningen circle, which now counts more than 50 members.

• Selena Dolderer grew up in Southern Germany, have lived and worked in the UK, and in 2011, settled in the Netherlands after completing her Master of Science in Industrial and Organisational Psychology. Her freelancing journey starts in 2018 as an independent coach to support people to thrive in their career, overcome challenges in your workplace and she works as a consultant to foster diversity and inclusion within the film industry, as well as within cooperate and academic institutions. She has worked as a lecturer and trainer at the University of Groningen since 2017 where she focuses on creating an inclusive curriculum and academic workforce.
  Since 2015, she has been contributing to the local Groningen community as the co-founder of METiS-women growing together. It is a grass-root community based initiative that connects women who fled their home countries, internationals in Groningen and locals.

• Vi Nguyen had an interest in working in marketing ever since she was young and her love for anything online started when she was only a teenager. After finishing her Marketing studies, she joined a well-known digital marketing agency where she learned a bunch and served lots of national and international clients. She then started freelancing, next to her fulltime job, helping clients with their digital marketing and specifically with Social Media Advertising. What do you need to do when you start freelancing? And how to combine it when still working fulltime? Vi can tell you all about it, let’s talk!
