Bear mountain is the highest summit in the State of CT and one of the state’s most challenging trails. We are doing the loop counterclockwise, so scrambling on rocks is involved and a steep climb. Bear mountain is a tough one but with determination, little patience and plenty of water, the rewards far outweigh the strains of climbing up the tallest peak in CT.
As is true with most popular hikes, it’s best to arrive early. The lot off state Route 41 only accommodates about 20 cars.
I’ll be in the parking lot before 8 am, if you can make it 10-15 mins before 8 am, the better so we can hike earlier before the sun burns on our head, otherwise the hike starts at exactly 8am.

Understanding the topography of any hike is understanding where you are, where you’re heading and know how to get back • There’s no known leader on this hike, every hiker needs to be aware of their surroundings and help keep each other safe. • Know your limitations. We’re hikers. Not strollers. • PREPAREDNESS IS AWARENESS ** severe weather conditions will automatically cancel this hiking event ** I can do carpool. Message me so we can make arrangements.
