# Careers in Data and Technology: What do your first few years look like?
Join us as we bring together a group of talented women to share what it's like to pursue a career in data and technology. This is an event for anyone interested in gaining insights into the various career paths available in the data sector, learning what it takes to be successful, and discovering what your life might look like having a position in the industry. We have a lineup of professionals with a variety of backgrounds and positions who would offer answers to what you are looking for when considering a career in data.
Justice DelCore (Moderator)
Justice has a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of South Dakota, and she developed her love for data science during her time as a lab assistant at the University of South Dakota. During the pandemic lockdown, she used her extra time to teach herself how to code, which eventually led her to a year-long fellowship at Google. She also recently got selected as a Data Analytics Fellow at Hack Diversity to further launch her data career.
Jamila Smith-Dell (Panelist)
After getting a chemical engineering degree from MIT and starting a career in oil & gas, Jamila took a sabbatical to satisfy her wanderlust and traveled around the world. While blogging and keeping track of expenses about her travels, she found a new passion for data analysis and visualization. She followed her new passion and sought learning opportunities including an 18-week program during which she led her team for an in-depth analysis of sponsorships between companies and NBA players, shedding light into untapped partnerships. She has continued her successful career and adventure in her new position at LinkedIn as an Insights Analyst. She also continues to pursue her love of learning and recently got awarded a recognition for being in the top 12% learners in LinkedIn. She has accomplished this along with teaching part-time to empower underrepresented groups and help diversify the tech industry.
Carolina de Abreu (Panelist)
Carolina de Abreu has a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Physics, where she focused on her studies in network science. In 2019 she started working as a full time Data Scientist for Poatek.
